Great Is the Mystery of Godliness
By Sylvia V. Rainey

And without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness. God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”
T
imothy 3:16

What is the Mystery?

God desires all to be saved by receiving knowledge of the Truth through the gospel and faith in Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:4) The truth is Jesus Christ walked on earth in the flesh, preached among the nations, and died for our sins that we might be saved. This is the “Glorious Mystery of Faith,” the revelation of God's love and saving purpose in Christ. This is the transforming knowledge which is available to everyone, but it requires hearing and obeying the gospel which has the power to make a believer live in a Godly manner.

The Traits of Godliness

Trust in God. Turn away from self to God in dependence on God's love. A sign of that dependence is obedience to God. (1 Tim. 4:1-5)

Serving God in Faith and Love as Grace Claims You for God's Service. To respond to God's call to service means accepting a transformation of life . (1 Tim.3:1-7)

Make Supplications, Prayers, Intercessions and Thanksgiving for all in the World. To pray for all in public worship gives witness to the testimony of Jesus to God's saving purpose. ( 1 Tim.2:1-7)

Faith and Good Conscience through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit endows believers with the energy, compassion and discipline to preserve and transmit the faith, not timidly but boldly and confidently. “Hold the mystery of faith in pure conscience.” (1 Tim. 3:9)

Single-minded Devotion to the Truth. Sound doctrine and correct behavior are the components of an integrated and complete response to the gospel. (1 Tim:3)

Patience and Contentment. Focus on goals that reflect our allegiance to God and reflect God's nature revealed through Jesus Christ: righteousness, faith, love, steadfastness and gentleness. ( 1 Tim. 6:11-16)

Defy false teaching that Dishonors God. Right teaching implies right action. The source of sound doctrine is God's mercy and grace. (1 Tim.:6)
